I love tumblr. For those of you that don’t know – These Old Colors was actually started on tumblr in 2010, but eventually migrated to WordPress a year later. I still have a heart for tumblr though, because of it’s easy inspiration and the community. It’s weird to say that tumblr is a community, but it’s true…it really is. To add to the community, tumblr has added a new branch to it’s empire called Storyboard.
“Storyboard is a regular collection of features highlighting talented creators and their work, as found within and around the massively diverse Tumblr community.”
I’m really loving the execution of this idea, because when you visit or follow a person’s tumblr you don’t know much about them, just that you might have the same interests or like some of their pictures. Storyboard gives you insight into some bloggers and the inner workings of tumblr.
Read the existing articles then give it a follow. While you’re over there…head on over to the ToC tumblr and leave us some love.
This is going to be a promotion of ourselves because some of you might not know, unless you follow us on Facebook, or have checked out our ABOUT page, ToC is a very sociable blog.
We are up to date on all the cool & hip social networks.
Here’s a rundown of what we’re on and contributing to on a daily / weekly basis…
This is one of my favorite things. Seriously…If I had my own “These are a few of my favorite things” Sound Of Music song…Spotify would be in there. Along with the movie Hook and Apple products. I’ve compiled a bunch of playlists including, but not limited to…
TheseOldColors Radio – a playlist of cool music I love to listen to. Right now there’s 395 tracks to listen to. Adding to it on the reg.
TheseOldColors Chill – a mixture of my favorite songs to chill to – hence the name. It’s a great mix to listen to while in a candle lit room and laying on the floor. Not saying I’ve done that…but I might. Who knows.
TheseOldColors Dance Party – you probably guessed this one right away. My favorite tracks to add to club mixes or DJ to.
There are way too many playlists on there that I can add to this post…so you’ll just have to go and check it out for yourself.
Also check out my brother Rick’s profile. He has a collection of more film-based playlists which includes 2 playlists dedicated to film scores/soundtracks from this year and last, as well as songs featured in popular movie trailers.
We like to inspire and to be inspired. That’s why ToC exists. That’s why we have all these outlets to share with you. We couldn’t see the purpose of just one social network…we needed them all.
Here’s some other link of social networks we’re on…
You can also follow us on twitter through the ABOUT page.
Check out those and leave us a comment on one of ‘em. We love comments. We also love you.
I am jumping on this bandwagon really late…but…better late than never.
Some of you might have heard about Flipboard for the iPad / iPhone / iTouch…The revolutionary app that transforms your social networks into your own personal magazine. Making it easier to view shared content from your Twitter or Facebook friends. Here’s a video by the ever popular Adam Lisagor on what Flipboard is…
For some reason unknown – I just downloaded this app on my iPhone (since I don’t have an iPad) – and I am loving it. The interface and design is so sleek and customer friendly that makes it hard not to enjoy. The motion of swiping your thumb up on the phone is fun and it’s a different way of using my iPhone, which I thought I’d never say; and the graphics are very fluid and load very fast. I’m impressed and I feel stupid for just now getting it. I wish they would come out with a desktop app for this too – and add RSS compatibility to it so Google Reader can have a good competitor.
We finally jumped on the bandwagon and are now pinning pictures in our boards. If this sounds foreign to you, or really…you just don’t know what I’m talking about…request an invite.
Then you can follow us here.
Right now we’re just using it as a place to store inspiration. And I’m pretty much addicted as everybody else. Haha. And despite the popular belief…Pinterest is not just for girl…it’s for guys too.
Seriously. I need more guy friends over there.
And is it just me – or is the Path logo and Pinterest logo very similar? No, it’s not just me…they are very similar.
I know new social networks are beginning to be a drag. I think everybody’s kinda hung up on Facebook and Twitter, which is cool. Those are the 2 I use the most…well those and Instagram.
But I just found out about Path, “the simple way to keep a journal or “Path” of your life on the go.”
The thing that intrigues me about Path (beside the logo resembling the Phillies logo “GO PHILLIES”) is the profile. It resembles a lot like the new Facebook timeline, but from what I heard is that Path came before the new timeline experiment on Facebook. Ok, so they’re not just copy catting – which is probably everybody’s thought, but Facebook is the copy cat here, we’re just so used to seeing it first.
Another cool feature about Path is that it doesn’t let you exceed 150 friends. So you have to choose and pick the best of your friends and who you want to keep updated with. Which I’m sure all of us are kind of tired about with Facebook…”Who cares about a guy I met once when I was 12?” I sure as heck don’t care…but he’s on my Facebook.
The design and user interface is really minimal and sleak. I think another thing about Facebook that I’m getting annoyed with is all the “things” that you can do with it and that you see. There’s so much going on at one time. I mean…it does help us with ADD that can’t just focus on one thing at a time…but sometimes minimal is better. Path also has little “bonuses” like a moving clock to show you what time you or your friends walked it out, and adding smiley faces to posts ranging from happy to sad. So you’re actually able to dislike a post. Ha. About time.
I’m not saying use this instead of Facebook and Twitter…you can actually share your “walk” from Path to Facebook or Twitter. I think it might be a cool way to actually keep in touch with friends and family. Why should you get Path on your phone? Watch the video below…and then tell me…doesn’t that just warm your heart?
Here’s a really cool infograph on what the employes of some of the biggest companies in the US right now get as perks for working.
I think we all want to work for at least one of these companies. Not sure what I’d do for them, but I’d be freaking great at it if I get free food all day!
I can just picture myself on my drive to work everyday…trying not to smile, but having a really hard time doing so.

Gimme Bar is a new bookmarking app for your browser with a twist. It acts like a social network with the ability to share findings on the internet easily, and its also is like a note taker where you can choose to just add stuff for you to view later. A really cool feature that I’m digging is the whole hook-up to dropbox thing…that’s an interesting feature that I haven’t seen anywhere else.
